Understory Plant Abundance Is More Important than Species Richness in Explaining Soil Nutrient Variation Following Afforestation on the Eastern Loess Plateau, China

چکیده
Afforestation plays an important role in controlling soil erosion and nutrient loss on the Loess Plateau China. However, previous studies changes have mainly focused effects of tree species, whereas little is known about how shrubs herbs caused by afforestation drive changes. In this study, we examined variation characteristics understory vegetation nutrients for different types. The results showed that compared to abandoned farmland, plantations significantly increased organic carbon total nitrogen but had no significant effect phosphorus. Robinia pseudoacacia L. forests were more effective than Pinus tabuliformis Carr. increasing content. addition, herbaceous R. forest better explained variation, herb abundance was best explanatory variable; however, shrub contributed P. forest, most. Accordingly, determined plant abundance, rather species richness, may be most factor driving Specifically, regulating biomass litter biomass. By contrast, indirectly affected altering Furthermore, although phylogenetic relationships less composition, they also made contributions. Therefore, should considered addition composition when assessing impact properties future.

Changes in Soil Microbial Community and Its Effect on Carbon Sequestration Following Afforestation on the Loess Plateau, China
Afforestation plays an important role in soil protection and ecological restoration. The objective of this study is to understand the effect of afforestation on soil carbon and soil microbial communities in the Loess Plateau of China. We measured two chemically-separated carbon fractions (i.e., humic acid, HA, and fulvic acid, FA) and soil microbial communities within shrublands (18-year-old Ca...
متن کاملInfluence of Afforestation on the Species Diversity of the Soil Seed Bank and Understory Vegetation in the Hill-Gullied Loess Plateau, China
The Chinese Loess Plateau region has long been suffering from serious soil erosion. Thus, large-scale afforestation has continued during the past decades in order to control soil erosion. Afforestation can dramatically alter nutrient cycles, affect soil-carbon storage, and change hydrology. However, it is unknown how afforestation influences species diversity of the soil seed bank and understor...

متن کاملChanges in Species Richness and Community Productivity during Succession on the Loess Plateau (china)
We investigated changes in species richness, community biomass, and productivity during secondary forest succession in Ziwuling area of the Loess Plateau of China. Species richness(number of taxa) increased as the succession proceeds, and peaked at the climax forest community, but the richness growth gradually slowed down as the succession advanced. Community biomass rapidly increased from the ...
متن کاملSoil Carbon and Nitrogen Changes following Afforestation of Marginal Cropland across a Precipitation Gradient in Loess Plateau of China
Cropland afforestation has been widely found to increase soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil total nitrogen (STN); however, the magnitudes of SOC and STN accumulation and regulating factors are less studied in dry, marginal lands, and therein the interaction between soil carbon and nitrogen is not well understood. We examined the changes in SOC and STN in younger (5-9-year-old) and older (25-30-...
